Music to heal the heart and soul benefit concert

A benefit concert called “Music to heal the heart and soul” will be held at Southminster United Church in Lethbridge on Saturday, April 30.

The concert will feature

  • the University of Lethbridge Singers, under the direction of Janet Youngdahl;
  • piano soloist Deanna Oye;
  • Claire Lint and Dancers, and
  • others who will offer prayers, readings and poetry.

There is no charge for this concert, but relief agencies will have tables set up to take donations for victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

Japan Earthquake: United Church of Canada Fund

Japan Earthquake: Shaw, Telus Step Up

Shaw and Telus are offering free phone service to Japan.

Shaw, through its Home Phone service, is offering free long distance calling to Japan until March 31. It has also made the Japanese TV channel available at no charge to digital cable subscribers. Details can be found at this link to Shaw.

Telus is offering free phone service to Japan until March 31 (excerpt below). It has also set up a text-to-donate feature where phone users can donate to the Canadian Red Cross or the  Salvation Army of Canada by sending a text message. It says it will donate $100,000 to Canadian charities to assist in relief efforts in Japan.   Full details can be found on this link to Telus:

Japan Earthquake Service at BTSA

The Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta will hold a special memorial service for victims of earthquake and tsunami in northeast Japan.

Calgary Consulate: earthquake donations account

The Consulate-General of Japan at Calgary  has established a bank account with TD Canada Trust to accept financial donations from those who want to contribute to the earthquake and tsunami relief.

According to the consulate, the donations will be remitted to the Japanese Red Cross Society to assist in their earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan.  The TD Canada Trust is waving its wire transfer fee so that 100% of your donation will reach the Red Cross.
